I am so warmed to see this outpouring of thoughts about Ted. Like all of you, I loved this man as a teacher and a friend.

He was a legend in is own time but wanted no fame. My favorite quote from Ted when I asked him why he only charged $20-$25 per lesson: "Well, you know, I want to meet as many people as I can!" A true zen master...

I will fly from Chicago for a memorial service. My info:

Dan-

Thank you for this site.

I am so saddened by Ted's passing. A beautiful spirit, who invented a music with that same beauty.

I miss him.

Please count me in on the memorial.

The time I spent with Ted not only impacted how I looked at guitar, but how I heard music regardless of style, genre, era, and complexity. His humbleness amazed me. I feel lucky to have known him. Please keep me informed and add me to the memorial list of attendees.

Thank you,

There is so much I would like to say but frankly, I am numb. For two years one day a week I visited with Ted. During that time I fell in love with his spirit and intellect. Afterward we spoke regularly and there was no indication that his health was failing. Ted, I think of you every day. Eternal Peace, my brother.

Ted was an amazing human being- I am so grateful that i got the chance to study with Ted.

A true gentlemen, a dedicated musician and teacher. Ted's death is a huge loss but his spirit will live on in all of us who were lucky enough to be touched by him...
Thanks for inspiring me Ted,

I can't believe he's gone. It's crushing to lose a man of such love and compassion. He was such an inspiration, being able to effortlessly perform miracles on guitar while telling stories of the Beatles or Wes. Ted was way more than a teacher or a musician, He IS a light in the lives of all who encountered him. His undertanding, humor, humility, and compassion for those around him was as much an influence on me as his guitar playing.

We will miss you, Ted.

My condolences to all of Ted's family and friends.

I would appreciate any info on the memorial service,

Please keep me informed of any memorial services. Ted was a long time teacher and a good friend........and a very wise and loving soul. We are all at a great loss to lose such a compassionate and wise man. He taught much more than music.....

Ted was like the candle that did not burn long, but ever so bright. He illuminated the minds of countless musicians young, and old, and like all great History, he will be remembered.

Hi Dan. This is a terrible loss! No guitarist growing up in the SFV in the late '60s was unaffected by Ted, his inspiring genius, and sage-like demeanor. I first saw him play at Chatsworth High School with a band called The Nomads (c. 1967-8. He was playing a black Les Paul. I introduced him to Don Troiano in 1969-70 and they became friends. Ted's first words to Don were, "You've been listening to Lenny Breau." Although I had not spoken to Ted in some time, I will always be grateful for having known him. --

Even though I've never taken lessons from this man, I did enjoy his professionalism, and the students of his that I learned from. I will always appreciate his talent, the books written, and remember that trading cards and baseball were necessary to gain his interest and trust.

Please let me know when arrangements have been made.

Thank you for organizing this site. I live in Kentucky now, but hope to make it for the service. I have studied with Ted for many years, both when I lived in L.A. and since then via mail. My world will never quite feel the same, and I will cherish the memories of sitting in his living room and witnessing his brilliance. My deepest sympathy to his family.
