This beautiful piece is an early transcription by Ted of the well-known Handel piece, The Harmonious Blacksmith.  He wrote it in standard music notation without any fingerings or chord diagrams.  Based on the notation I’ve drawn “Ted-style” chord grids for what I believe how Ted probably played it.  Other alternate fingerings are possible and one should explore them.

Please note that Ted didn’t write up the second variation of this “Air,” but just the first 8 measures.  Although most guitarists play this piece in the key of A, Ted’s arrangement is in the original key of E and it is unique.  Do a search on YouTube and you’ll find almost everyone doing it in A.  I really like the different treatment of playing this piece with a warm electric guitar sound with a healthy amount reverb—very Ted-like!

Thanks to Dr. David Bishop for his help in proof-reading my compilation page and offering suggestions for chord names.  He also pointed out that Ted made a slight modification to Handel’s original score in the first half of beat 3, measure 8.  Instead of the original D#dim./F#, Ted plays a B7.  (Ted must have been hearing the B note as the missing root.)  If you want to play the D#dim. triad, try voicing it as (low to high) F#, D#, A on either strings 5, 3 & 2 or 4, 2, & 1.

Enjoy!
